ABSTRACT

Boys aren’t born ‘real lads’, they are made through a long process of learning. The problem is that this learning is often so taken for granted that it is usually invisible to most of us. If boys are going to take greater charge of their lives, then that learning urgently needs to become more visible to them. In schools, clubs and colleges, we need to offer courses and learning approaches that encourage a growing awareness of that invisible learning and, at a later stage, the taking of alternative choices about their developing gender identities.
