ABSTRACT

Concern for the environment, for treating global warming and pollution might seem at some times paramount, but the 20th century was overshadowed by mass destruction based on prejudice and hatred. Religious intolerance is one of the fiercest manifestations of prejudice. The belief that there is only one truth and that is one's own is a clear statement about one aspect of the human condition and the way it is defined. The study of prejudice reveals that whilst each country has its own way of presenting its nationalism as patriotism, the tendency to adhere to a particular point of view is universal. The fundamental question of nationalism, as of education, is the relationship between the individual's personal make-up and responsibility and the organizational and cultural system in which he or she operates. Nationality can be defined as both a cultural and a political phenomenon. A nation-state, a political invention, can define a particular territory full of different traditions and inheritances.
