ABSTRACT

Buildings betray what we value. Offices in particular reveal the values of those who build them and work in them. No one who passed down the main street of Casterbridge had any doubts about which corn merchants or bankers or solicitors considered themselves of weight and prominence. It is equally easy to detect in any plan of an office interior layout which shows furniture as well as room size those managers who have been powerful enough to appropriate spatial as well as organisational influence.
