ABSTRACT

In a knowledge-intensive business climate, the primary method of securing a sustainable competitive advantage is via innovation. One of the current innovative thrusts has been the outsourcing of job functions to lower costs. By off-shoring business processes to locations where goods and services can be processed at a lower cost than in the domestic market, the international firm is also able to capitalize on new local capabilities, rather than simply relying on the capabilities in the domestic market. The tacit assumption behind many of the benefits of globalization as described in earlier books is that the levels of innovation that have led to much of the progress in the interconnected global markets will continue into the future. What is less clear is how the many roles of the entrepreneur will change in the future, as the global environment continues to integrate differing perspectives, modes of thought, and technologies for the betterment of the firm.
