ABSTRACT
Bacon once said that the discourses of the philosophers are like the stars; they shed little light because they are so high. I propose to be true to my calling in one respect at leastto start from highly general considerations and to work my way gradually downwards to more mundane particularities. The stages of my coming down to earth will be marked by the following questions:
