Leaky roofs and other matters: the riot as a Japanese negotiating tactic

The Japanese in Pusan were, from 1512, clearly limited to their compound – the walls were the boundary. This chapter examines an aspect of the interaction of people inside and outside of these walls, and our chief concern is with the control of people’s movements or the exercise of sovereignty.
