Futhermore, Lord of the Secret Ones, I shall explain the secret recitation. Alone with one or one with one, you should always do the recitation either mentally or else in a whisper, with the most excellent yoga A Do not recite the mantras in any other way B , with a deficiency in the members! I have explained the four members [of recitation] which combine the inner and outer: that is the mundane [recitation], best of those with cognitive objects C . The excellent whispered recitation engrossed in the drawing-in of the syllables, with your manas focussed on the deity, I have prescribed for that with cognitive objects. (155b) The supramundane is that done mentally, ceasing to do the drawing-in and so on D . You should make yourself one with the deity, perceiving both to be identical, it should be inseparable from the nature of your manas E . In no other way should it be done. The number of mantras, three hundred thousand, which I have generally prescribed, is the number of recitations stipulated for the pure mantrins, beings who are free from failings. In no other way should it be done.'
