ABSTRACT
The Chinese word ‘aiguozhuyi’ literally means love for the country or the nation. The claim that the Chinese overseas are characterised by their love for the Chinese nation, however, has a political significance. It refers to the fact that overseas Chinese communities are drawn into the frameworks of official patriotism.
