ABSTRACT

COMMUNIST PARTY OF NEPAL (UML) The Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninist) —commonly known as the UML-consists of many factions of different communist groups. Despite the loss of its leader, Bandari (in a possibly non-accidental car crash?), the party won the election in 1995 under Man Mohan Adikari. It held power for only 9 months, being a minority government. Today Adikari’s ill-health keeps him out of the political arena and a new generation of leaders is emerging. The UML is believed capable of winning an election should one be held today.
