ABSTRACT

I do not believe that inequality in wealth can ever be completely removed by force. The disparity inherent in man is sure to assert itself. There is also the difference in temperament. Some love to hoard money while others have no inclination, so that unevenness in wealth is created. A mechanical uniformity is neither possible nor even desirable. As in the world of nature so in the world of man, complete uniformity paralizes initiative and makes the intellect idle. But excessive unevenness is equally bad, since it greatly hinders the development of social contact amongst people by the creation of distance between them. Evil builds its nest under the shadow of such barriers.41
