ABSTRACT

In a school in Atlanta, about 50 percent of the students are refugees. Anah, a third grade student from Bosnia, had always been her grandmother’s favorite grandchild-very close and very dear to her. When the grandmother, who was still in Bosnia, realized she was dying, she asked Anah and her mother to return to see her one last time. Anah’s teacher, Sister Patty Caraher, created a ceremony to mark the occasion.
