ABSTRACT

The second part of this book concentrates on working with marital relationships, which necessitates facing up to the untidiness of real problems and the lack of adequate theoretical explanations which might lead to clear prescriptions for practice. From the outset, practical issues such as the difficulty of focussing on the marital dyad, or of deciding whether or not to maintain this focus or to work with the family, will need to be recognized and contended with. This is our purpose in this chapter.
