ABSTRACT

Let us begin with the people who were most sympathetic towards Jellicoe’s philosophy. Interestingly, one of these was Rebecca Hughes, whose background is in the sciences and whose career has taken her into landscape planning. Nevertheless she told me:

Given my time again, I could easily see myself going to art college and not being an ecologist at all, because I have a great interest in sculpture and land art generally that is totally different from my biological interest. I used to do a lot of sculpture before I went to university and it’s something that is definitely there. It doesn’t go away. I’m fascinated by it, and Jellicoe really epitomised that in landscape design for me.
