ABSTRACT
However, in Asian cities, land management practices on the metropolitan periphery may inhibit the use of adjoining lands for farming and ranching. As a result, rival uses often capture these spaces before agriculture secures its footing. Moreover, when rural densities are high, and individual holdings are small, the sort of farming that takes hold may compromise productivity potential, while at the same time supporting many who might otherwise migrate to the cities.
