ABSTRACT

This paper aims to report upon ongoing research at Liverpool John Moores University investigating decision making within design teams in design and build organisations. The aim of the research is to develop an information model which reflects the constraints that exist in the teams involved in design development, consider the impact procurement arrangements have upon team learning and culture. The paper will report upon a literature search in the area of design development, consider how contractors have responded to the design and build procurement route in the United Kingdom and suggests some of the factors that impact upon decision making by the design team. Some preliminary findings will be reported upon and a research approach is identified for the next stage of data collection.
