ABSTRACT

It is interesting to examine the rich vein of projects that Buro Happold are currently involved in. It is perhaps a true reflection of the Happold doctrine. ‘What I know about engineering is that it has to be a group activity, and the best work is done by the most diverse group of talents who can still live together.’ ‘G and C Rogers described engineering as the practice of organising the design construction and operation of any artefact which transforms the physical world around us in order to meet some recognised need. The product is usually the result of co-operative action on a large and certainly complex scale. Often the user desires to see the product or building designed by one person and it is certainly true that personal choice is an important element in most aspects of all design, yet the skills and experience needed in the whole process are rarely, if ever, held by one person.’
