ABSTRACT

Rooflights are required in most industrial and commercial buildings to create an acceptable working environment. The HSE Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, Regulation 8 states the following.

‘Every workplace shall have suitable and sufficient lighting.

The lighting shall, so far as reasonably practical, be by natural light’

With profiled cladding, the commonest form of rooflight comprises matching profiled translucent sheets—usually double skin. Alternatively barrel-vaults or domes can be fitted on up-stands, on both sloping and flat roofs.
