ABSTRACT

Besides fulfilling the primary functions of teaching and research, universities are responsible to ensure their building/construction related graduates to be professional competent and vocationally well trained. The universities are often criticized by the industry as working in ‘an ivory tower’. On the other hand, the building industry is in need of technological advancement. To improve the quality standard of university education so as to best meet the needs of the industry as well as to help the building industry to undergo standards change, there is a call for partnership between the universities and professionals/industry. The links may take in the form of participation in curriculum, research, preferred graduates development scheme, recruitment, and science parks, etc. These forms of partnership will be beneficial to the universities, the industry and the building graduates both academically and professionally.
