ABSTRACT

This paper is concerned with the product development loop in the Building Industry. It makes reference to the problems particular to the industry.

The emergence of the sophisticated building user is described, along with the Facility Manager. The role of the Facility Manager is described by comparing the goals of the building developer, the owner and the user. As the ‘owner’ of experience of performance about efficiency of use, the Facility Managers potential for completing the ‘design-build-evaluation’ loop is established. Some observations are made.

The Facilities Management papers offered at the University of Auckland are described.
