ABSTRACT

‘Professionalism’ is a deep concept, a mature understanding of which can develop only over time. Understanding begins with reflection on one’s own experience in relation to the traditions of professionalism. Building is rooted in the traditions of its own professionalism, in that of business and management, and in the older, wider tradition of the professional ideal generally. Personal experience and the traditions can be reframed in terms of strata having increasing depths of meaning. Post-graduate education can provide opportunity for reflection on experience, study of the traditions and exploration of the strata.
