ABSTRACT

Grove Road Primary School was the London Borough of Hounslow’s oldest group of school buildings still in use. Its three Victorian buildings, originally built as separate schools for infants, girls and boys, imposed an undesirable constraint upon the requirements of modern teaching methods. The traditional high window sills restricted outside awareness, and the structural form and disposition of the buildings created lengthy internal circulation routes and negated integration between age groups. Two of the buildings were in a poor state of repair and all the buildings were surrounded by Tarmac without any soft areas.
