ABSTRACT
Bedales Theatre (see Figure 18.1), in the rolling countryside of Hampshire, has a green (i.e. unseasoned) oak structure with walls and roof of treated larch boards. The use of oak is symbolic of a centuries-old English tradition of building and an echo of the more recent oak timber-framed library at Bedales designed by Ernest Gimson in the 1920s.
