ABSTRACT
The overall aim of this chapter is to compare and contrast the theory of embedded intergroup relations (Alderfer, 1977, 1987; Alderfer & Thomas, 1988) with racial identity development theory (Carter & Goodwin, 1994; Helms, 1990; Helms & Carter, 1991) for purposes of explaining and predicting changes in racial identity.
