ABSTRACT

The Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA) includes standardized instruments for assessing behavioral, emotional, and social problems and adaptive functioning from the age of 11/2 to 90+ years. The purpose ofthe instruments is to assess a broad spectrum of problems and adaptive functioning, as seen from multiple perspectives, including self-reports and reports by people who know the person being assessed, designated as "collaterals." The instruments include quantified items that are scored on scales for empirically based syndromes and on DSM-oriented scales. In addition to quantified items and scales. the instruments also obtain clinically useful, individualized qualitative information.
