ABSTRACT
Non-domestic buildings tend to be more densely occupied than domestic buildings and, being deeper in plan, have to rely more on artificial lighting. This leads to high levels of internal heat gain. However, the surface area to volume ratio tends to reduce in larger buildings, thus reducing fabric losses in relation to floor area.
