ABSTRACT

The chapter introduces the meaning of commissioning and the scope of work that is normally carried out. An air-conditioning system may be allied to other mechanical services systems such as heating plant. Maintenance of air conditioning has energy-consumption implications, and also health and safety at work legislative obligations. The main elements of commissioning and maintenance are included but the topics and lists are not exhaustive. The commissioning and maintenance of the air-handling system are prominent. The information provided for water systems, automatic control, refrigeration and heat generation is general rather than specific in detail. Items are listed alphabetically and not in their order of importance or timing. The reader's answers to descriptive questions should be discussed with colleagues or tutors. Questions require the use of the information within this chapter, references, manufacturers' recommendations and details of specific applications.
