ABSTRACT

In the European directives minimum requirements of safety but no test method is described, and no admissible values. Test methods and admissible values are supposed to be developed in harmonised standards.

When developing harmonised standards for power-operated doors and gates it became necessary to measure crushing forces between closing and counterclosing edges and state maximum admissible forces.

Various methods and equipment for measuring of crushing forces have previously been developed, but there were significant differences between the results. This resulted in different levels of crushing forces.

Methods were compared and sensoric tests were performed, which resulted in a proposal for a European method for measuring of crushing forces, where effects on the human body are taken into account.
