ABSTRACT

It seems both daunting and daring to embark on a reflection upon one’s work in the context of personal and professional history. Such an effort seems to require both a lifespan developmental perspective and a degree of self-criticality that may have waned with the well-known central nervous system changes that occur with age. However, the task offers an opportunity to reconstruct some of the salient experiences and developmental transitions in my personal and professional life. In retrospect, the events in my career that seem worthy of discussion also seem both era-bound and the result of fortuitous circumstances rather than forethought and planning.
