ABSTRACT

Major changes in the public sector have meant that government bodies and local authorities are implementing large-scale and widespread tendering of property consultancy for contracts which will take effect in 1996. During the 3 years to March 1995, government departments have already exposed estates and facilities management services to the market with an estimated value of over £423 million. The total value of all construction related services within local government has been estimated to be in the region of £1.5 bn, which therefore represents some 28% of total workload and is consequently highly significant.
