ABSTRACT
A project will be triggered by some ideas concerning the need for a particular kind of building or building works, and by the decision to investigate the various possibilities. Although no site may yet be owned, it will be convenient to speak of the initiator of the project as the owner. This is also the term used in the USA. In the UK, members of the design team (see later) refer to the owners as their client. In a UK contract for construction work (see Chapter 17), they are called the employer.
