Lighting and room character

The first step in lighting design is to establish the character of the room-the nature of

the place as it will be perceived by its users. Interior lighting and colour give more than

information about objects and surfaces. They set a mood, suggest an ambience; and this

must be appropriate for the purpose of the place and consistent with the architecture as a

whole.
