ABSTRACT
The direct economic impacts of increasing the density with which urban land is used through the effective implementation of such policies are not easily measured. The economies of scale made possible by the closer proximity of households and of firms to each other may be offset to a greater or lesser extent by the costs of congestion and higher land prices.
