ABSTRACT

During the 1985 Inquiry with the attendant local publicity many supporters of our objection had emerged, giving us increased confidence. For the first time there was open public discussion of the merits of the Department of Transport Cutting scheme. Whatever else we had done we had exploded the myth that the Cutting route would be good for the environment. A new and crucial stage had been reached in the history of the M3 around Winchester, already more than a decade old.
