ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses source classification in terms of effects, as opposed to generic forms of mechanism described in Section 3.6.1. A qualitative classification of the various regions of sound fields generated by sources in terms of sound intensity distributions is followed by a section describing how the results of two-microphone (p-p) measurements may be used to classify and characterise sound fields in quantitative terms, with particular emphasis on the significance and application of 'sound field indicators'.
