ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of a study of the golf swings of a group of touring professionals and amateurs of varying skills. Their swings were recorded on a test set-up that consisted of a three dimensional video graphics system, force platforms supporting each foot, and a golf swing analyzer that measured club head velocity at impact. Swing events were selected for quantifying swing characteristics for each swing. The swing characteristics exhibiting the most significant correlation with club head velocity at impact for golfers swinging the driver are identified and a comparison is made between the mean values for the professionals and amateurs. The results are summarized as to their relevance to the golfer and teaching professional.
