ABSTRACT

The Theatre Village is located in central Newcastle. Those living in the city may not even be aware of its existence. The Chinatown quarter is known, and forms part of the area. The Theatre Village takes its name from the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, as its focus; a hundred years ago there was a strong arts base in that part of the city. The area, situated immediately north-west of Central Station, is about 400 metres in width and 600 metres running north to south, covering about 60 acres in total.
