ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to compare general motor performance variables of players from different football codes under standardized conditions. So far studies that have been carried out have tended to concentrate on one specific code (Reilly et al. 1988). Each football code is highly specific from a technical, tactical and conditioning standpoint. Besides, playing position places specific demands on players. Therefore, there are very few top players who have switched codes or have excelled in two or more football codes. Because of the high degree of specific factors (Douge, 1988), differences in general motor performance variables can also be expected. The aim of the study was twofold:

to determine whether any differences in a general motor fitness test battery exist between American Football, Rugby Union and soccer teams;

to examine differences with regard to position in each code.
