ABSTRACT
Building Operations on or near the Highway Activities Related to Construction Work The 1980 Act influences and in many instances provides legal controls of many specific operations associated with construction work on or near the highway. Whilst it is impossible to discuss in detail each and every section of the Act which might apply in these circumstances, it is possible to look in some detail at many of the more common building operations which are affected and also those for which the outcome in event of infringement would be most serious from the point of view of both the construction programme with its attendant delays and the legal effects in terms of fines and or damages; Part IX of the Act contains the majority of the sections, the breach of which could have this result.
