ABSTRACT
The UK building industry has hardly developed, in managerial terms, during the past one hundred and fifty years. Each discipline was originally separated from the others by its training, its professional institution and its method of operating. Architects were (and to a large extent still are), advocating and enjoying one ‘standard’ form of contract and one recommended scale of charges for their services.
