ABSTRACT

Project management has been a topic of some debate in the United Kingdom construction industry for several years. Much of this interest has centred around the project manager as the overall controller of building work, acting as the “Client’s Adviser” and performing a duty over and above that of the traditional project participants. However, during this time there has also been much interest in project management in industry generally. This is evidenced by the number of articles generated by the subject in the general press and on television. “Have Project Will Manage”, the BBC Business Matters programme (BBC 1989) featuring the chairman of the Association of Project Managers, Dr. Martin Barnes is one example.
