ABSTRACT
For seven centuries Finland constituted an integral part of the kingdom of Sweden. In 1809 the country was incorporated into Tsarist Russia as an autonomous Grand Duchy and remained under Russian domination for more than a hundred years. Since World War I Finland has been a sovereign, politically neutral state with a market economy.
