ABSTRACT

By ‘specification’ is really meant ‘specification and agreement’, as these two documents are usually linked together. The specification proper is concerned with the actual work to be performed under the contract and the manner in which it is to be carried out, while the agreement contains the contractual terms and general conditions of contract. These two distinct aspects of the contract are commonly produced as separate Bills of the one document which, for the sake of brevity, is usually referred to as ‘the specification’. It is in this sense that the word is used here.
