ABSTRACT
North American textbooks tend to portray a standard approach to the application of value engineering. However, during research in USA and Canada it was found that while the job plan was followed there were various application procedures at different stages of the project. There are four clearly identifiable formal approaches to value engineering and a number of variations on the same themes.
