ABSTRACT

Our aim in this study was not only to decide the prevalence and nature of the psychological problems of the young people with cerebral palsy and spina bifida, but also to examine a range of factors which might be associated with the presence of these problems. Can we give any indication as to why some disabled young people were relatively free from marked psychological problems, often despite severe physical disabilities, while others, sometimes less disabled, had severe problems? Why was it that the spina bifida girls seemed more likely than the other groups to suffer from depression and anxiety?
