ABSTRACT

Approximately twenty percent of adolescents in the United States are emotionally disturbed to some degree. Nationally, twelve percent of adolescents are estimated to fall into a dysfunctional category and are in need of mental health services (Davis, Kercheck & Schricker, 1986). An additional fifteen percent are vulnerable for developing a serious mental health problem (Davis et al., 1986). These are adolescents who are functioning at a minimum level and who are at a very high risk of becoming dysfunctional in times of stress.
