ABSTRACT

Provide some examples of the “horrific consequences” that have taken place in history as a result of unchecked “absolute truths” and describe your stance on absolute truth.

8. Morgan discusses dialogue, which is the theme of the first two chapters in Part I, and uses the terms interactional dialogue to describe participants who allow themselves to be re-formed as a consequence, and transactional dialogue, where predetermined values are guardedly exchanged without any intention of change. How does this compare with Johnston’s exploratory and conciliatory dialogue and Edge’s asymmetrical reciprocity? What do you regard as essential to dialogue, and how do Morgan’s insights inform your understanding? To what extent do you agree with Canagarajah’s comparison of the models proposed by these authors in Chapter 9?
