ABSTRACT

The lilt of his music is unmistakable. His piano—playing technique is pure New Orleans style. His voice—with that quality of munched rather than simply spoken words—is magnificently distinctive. The Fats Domino sound dominated American popular music for two decades. On the “rhythm and blues” side of the ledger, only Ray Charles and James Brown rivaled Fats Domino's hit—record production between 1950 and 1969. In the Hot 100 category, Fats’ record—selling popularity was exceeded only by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson, and Connie Francis.
