ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we explore the cognitive dimension of the writing process. Like readers, writers are impacted by a number of factors, and it is by a re-visiting of these factors that this chapter begins. Following this brief review, the process of writing is explored and the behaviors of proficient and less proficient writers are analyzed. The chapter concludes with a look at the linguistic and cognitive interrelations between reading and writing as well as a cognitive discussion of the language story first presented in Chapter 1.
