My private practice has specialized in providing counseling and psychotherapy services to children and youth for more than 30 years, the last 15 years focused almost exclusively on working with young clients of extraordinarily high ability. My clients include young elite athletes, performing artists, and intellectually gifted students. I also teach graduate courses in child counseling and group counseling, and supervise graduate students providing counseling and psychotherapy. For these reasons, I am quite passionate about the topic of counseling the gifted. I hope that the reader senses my passion when reading this chapter. PowerPoints on the resource CD include “the twice exceptional student” and “underachievement and the gifted.” Both presentations can be used when teaching graduate students or practitioners about counseling the gifted.
