ABSTRACT

A chapter about shame in the context of combat might suggest a causal relationship; that shame is a result of one’s actions in combat. We suggest a far more complex relationship, building on a model of combat stress injury outlined in recent years by Nash, Hall, and Figley (Figley, Hall, & Nash, 2009; Nash, 2007; Nash & Figley, 2007). After dening the critical concepts and describing a theory of combat stress injuries, we address the implications of shame for war ghters.
